What are the properties of rocks |

rock properties
Rocks have many characteristics and features that differ according to their types, and the following are the most important characteristics of rocks regardless of their type:-
Some types of rocks can reflect the rays of light that reach them.
There are rocks with magnetic properties.
The presence of small holes in some igneous rocks.
Rock crystals are arranged randomly or in layers.
Many of the rocks are dark in color.
Sedimentary rocks consist of sediments in alternating layers on top of each other.
The average rock density is 2.73 grams per cubic centimeter.
The values of the coefficient of thermal volume expansion of rocks range from (15-33) x 10^-6.
Some types of rock can conduct electric current.
rock classifications
Rocks are formed naturally in the world because they form the solid substrate for it and it is a vital area for human activities and it is mainly composed of minerals. Although there are many types of rocks, they are divided into only three main types, which are as follows:
igneous rocks
The mechanism of formation of igneous rocks revolves around volcanic lava, so that volcanic lava consists of minerals and molten materials from the earth, which made its way to the surface, and then was exposed to much lower temperatures than it was, which leads to its freezing forming igneous rocks, and it can form In two cases, the first case when the molten materials cool quickly, which leads to the formation of smooth and shiny rocks, and the second case when the gases are confined inside these materials while they are on their way to solidification, forming rocks with small pores and holes, such as basalt rocks.
sedimentary rocks
It is originally sand, sediment, crusts, and other solid materials that were deposited and formed layers over the ages, and then subjected to pressure and heat for a long time, which led to its hardening and making it a type of rock. Examples are limestone.
Metamorphic rocks
They are called metamorphic rocks because of their transformation from one type to another, so that they could originally be igneous rocks and could be sedimentary rocks, but regardless of their origin, they were subjected to intense pressure and heat, which led to their occurrence. Reshaping and changing its mineral composition, and then forming a new type of rock, an example of which is marble
